The combined Dräger / Ascom solution enables :
The challenge
Patient monitoring and therapy devices generate a broad range of medical alarms. Some alarms are actionable, while others are simply informational. Audible alarms of all magnitude sometimes overlap and compete for the attention of care providers which can lead to patient safety risks when important alarms are missed.
The solution
The Ascom / Infinity® Gateway interface enables the transmission of clinical alarms and patient data from the Infinity® Monitoring Network to the care unit’s secondary notification devices. The Ascom software, transfers, prioritizes and then distributes alerts to the networked dashboard displays and mobile devices of designated care providers in accordance with department protocols.
The Ascom system extends the reach of patient status alarms generated by the Dräger Infinity Gateway and optionally other sources of patient data. The Ascom software as medical device distributes clinical alert notifications along with critical data and related contextual information to the mobile devices of caregivers, who might not be at the side of the patient requiring assistance.
The Ascom and Dräger integration can also boost workflow effectiveness by helping mobile caregivers minimize unnecessary work interruptions and support faster decision making. The Ascom system directs alerts to the clinicians assigned for the care of the patients requiring clinical intervention only, leaving other nearby care providers to work without interruption. The system's alarm filtering capabilities further minimizes the care providers’ exposure to low-priority, routine alerts that might ordinarily contribute to workflow bottlenecks, inefficiencies and alarm fatigue.
Faithful to our mission of shaping the future of healthcare, we continue to work on future-proofed solutions by supporting new interfaces such as Service-oriented Device Connectivity (SDC, according to IEEE 11073) to enable new applications and solutions in combination with the Ascom Alarm Management.
