Considering the news, we would like to address any concerns regarding Ascom products and clarify the following points:
1. No Involvement of Ascom Pagers
To the best of our knowledge, Ascom pagers have not been involved in the incidents in Lebanon.
2. Technical Differences of Ascom Pagers
Ascom pagers operate using a very different setup compared to those reportedly involved in the explosions. Our pagers are designed for on-site communication within customer-owned networks. They operate on a site-specific frequency configuration within the UHF radio band, designed for local use. Furthermore, when connected to a customer’s IP network, our systems are protected by advanced security measures, including firewalls, encryption, and port isolation, making unauthorized external access extremely difficult, if not impossible. By contrast, the pagers involved in the incident were reportedly set up for off-site communication, likely using a regional or nation-wide frequency configuration.
3. Ascom pagers are ordered from Ascom’s OEM suppliers Fideltronik (Poland) and Note (Sweden).
Ascom pagers are manufactured under stringent quality control standards by our OEM partners, Fideltronik in Poland and Note in Sweden. Based on information from various press reports, it appears the pagers involved in the Lebanon incidents were sourced from a different supplier, namely Gold Apollo in Taiwan, and were tampered with during production or distribution, by planting explosive devices. Ascom has no association with this manufacturer. All Ascom pagers are designed by Ascom and produced from Ascom’s OEM suppliers Fideltronik (Polen) and Note (Sweden) to ensure the highest levels of integrity and security.
